Australian Year

My First Day in Perth

I got off the plane after just over 20 hours of flying, feeling pretty pumped and with around €5,000 in my pocket.

The goal?

Hit a 1 million net worth.

The plan?

Speed up the process of increasing my income by getting into the mining industry, where I could potentially earn double or even more than in a regular job. The idea was to use that extra cash to start investing seriously: Bitcoin, stocks, and maybe even get into a physical business or some real estate if the opportunity came up. Use a bit of leverage and try to hit that 1 million mark within a year.

Yeah, I know it’s not exactly realistic but you’ve got to set bold goals and do everything you can to chase them.

As soon as I landed at the airport, I grabbed an Uber and about 15 minutes later I arrived at the Wallaby Hostel. When I got to the hostel, I was already quietly cursing. Normally, you enter with a code on a keypad at the front door nothing strange, they send it to you by email. That part worked fine. What they don’t tell you is where or how to find your room key!

Since the reception closes after 8 PM, I ended up wandering around the place like I was on some kind of scavenger hunt. Eventually, I spotted the key pinned to a little whiteboard behind a door. Classic.

I had booked a private one for the first three nights, mostly because I was a bit unsure about the hostel’s condition and the people staying there. I wanted to see things with my own eyes before committing to a shared room.

I chilled for a bit, then tried to get some sleep and fight the jet lag... but no luck. People were slamming doors right outside my room. I kept waking up thinking it was already morning only to realize it was still the middle of the night.

Yeah… let’s just say it wasn’t exactly the best night of my life. My room was on the first floor, right above the street and here in Perth, police cars and ambulances go by constantly, all with sirens loud enough to shake the windows.

In the end, I made it through the night thanks to a solid air conditioner and some trusty earplugs.

Looking back, it was probably mostly the jet lag because now I can sleep pretty well just about anywhere.
